Extreme Universe Laboratory
is a new research and education unit started in 2011, dedicated to the exploration of the extremes of the universe's early history and structure, gravity and particle acceleration, through observations of gamma ray bursts and other phenomenon of the distant early universe.
Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics of Moscow State University The laboratory is organised for development of the space experiments in order to effectively study cosmic gamma-ray bursts and re-ionization epoch of young Universe by using electromagnetic emission of gamma-ray bursts and of the GRB's afterglow for the benefit of the whole scientific community working in the field. In the near-future, under guidance of the leading scientist, Prof. G.F. Smoot, this group will evolve into "Space Astrophysics and Astro-Particle Physics" Department of SINP. The driving force of the laboratory is R&D of the new space experiments under preparation for "Lomonosov" space mission, and for the multi-messenger high energy astrophysics mission, known at present as "Nucleon", with the addition of UFFO-100 experiments (UFFO collaboration, http://uffo.skku.edu). The motivations for these experiments are to study the GRB prompt emission at different bands of electromagnetic spectrum, and to use the GRBs as independent cosmological probes of the young Universe. |
